Direct Giving Charitable Foundation
FEHSF provides emergency grant assistance to current or active sworn federal law enforcement agents, officers, and task force officers, as well as their spouses and children, when they are facing a qualifying crisis.
Grant requests may include, but are not limited to, line-of-duty death or injury, serious or life-threatening medical conditions, sudden financial hardship, natural disasters, or other urgent circumstances that place an immediate burden on the individual or family.
While FEHSF’s mission is focused on supporting law enforcement and national security professionals and their families, we also recognize that every crisis is different. When a request falls outside our direct grant parameters, FEHSF works to connect individuals and families with trusted charitable partners, foundations, and support organizations that may be better suited to address their specific need.
Our commitment is simple: when someone in our community asks for help, we do not simply turn them away. We work to understand the need, identify the right path forward, and help connect them with support whenever possible.
2025 Grants
Every FEHSF grant begins with a moment no family can ever truly prepare for.

A family suddenly facing grief, fear, travel, medical bills, funeral costs, childcare needs, and everyday expenses all at once.
That is where FEHSF steps in.
As the Financial First Responder, FEHSF moves quickly to support law enforcement and national security professionals and their families during the first and most difficult days of crisis. These grants are not simply checks. They are a message to families who have sacrificed in service to this nation:

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent
An ATF Special Agent suffered injuries in an accident that immediately disrupted the agent’s life and placed unexpected strain on the family. FEHSF responded with emergency financial assistance to help relieve the pressure of recovery, household needs, and the sudden expenses that often follow serious injury.
ATF Special Agent
An ATF Special Agent was seriously wounded while off duty after attempting to deescalate a violent encounter. The injury left him facing paralysis, a prolonged recovery, and an uncertain future for his wife and two young children.
FEHSF responded immediately, providing emergency financial support to help the family manage the strain of medical treatment, recovery, travel, household needs, and the sudden disruption to their lives. Beyond the financial grant, FEHSF’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jordan Josephson, provided guidance, counsel, and medical coordination support to help ensure the agent and his family had access to leading medical expertise during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.
This grant reflected the full strength of FEHSF’s mission: not only providing financial assistance, but surrounding a law enforcement family with support, advocacy, and compassion when they needed it most.
Customs and Border Protection Mission Support Family
A member of the CBP Mission Support community passed away suddenly, leaving behind a grieving spouse and family. FEHSF provided immediate financial assistance to help ease the burden of sudden loss and to give the family breathing room during the first painful days after tragedy.
United States Border Patrol Agent
A United States Border Patrol Agent died unexpectedly, leaving behind a spouse and family forced to confront loss without warning. FEHSF stepped in quickly with financial support to help relieve immediate expenses and remind the surviving family that the law enforcement community stood beside them.
Customs and Border Protection Agriculture Specialist Family
Two CBP Agriculture Specialists faced every parent’s nightmare when their young son was admitted to pediatric intensive care and required prolonged treatment away from home. The family lived in Brownsville, Texas, while their son received care at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, creating immediate travel, lodging, medical, and household burdens.
FEHSF provided assistance so the parents could remain focused on what mattered most: being present for their child during a frightening and uncertain medical crisis.
Customs and Border Protection Associate Director
A CBP Associate Director suffered a serious heart attack while traveling for work and required immediate medical care. His family suddenly faced hotel costs, subsistence expenses, and the challenge of arranging travel back home once he was released from the hospital.
FEHSF provided support so the family could remain at his side during hospitalization and recovery without the added burden of wondering how they would cover immediate expenses.

A CBP family faced continuing medical treatment needs for a spouse, creating ongoing financial pressure and uncertainty. FEHSF provided additional assistance to help ease the burden of medical care, household expenses, and the emotional weight that comes with prolonged illness.

FEHSF provided emergency assistance to help the family begin recovering from the flood and regain stability during a time of uncertainty.

A CBP Officer who had served the nation as both a Marine and a federal law enforcement officer passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a grieving mother, siblings, and a young child.
FEHSF provided assistance to help with funeral expenses and to provide support for the officer’s young son, honoring a life of service and helping the family through an unimaginable loss.
Customs and Border Protection Officer
A CBP Officer was seriously wounded during an off-duty violent encounter near the George Washington Bridge. The officer was hospitalized, began communicating through a tracheostomy, and faced a difficult road to recovery.
FEHSF responded with financial support to help the officer and family manage immediate needs during hospitalization, treatment, and recovery.

A CBP Officer and family were impacted by torrential rains and widespread flooding in the Rio Grande Valley, where portions of the region received more than 20 inches of rain. The family faced major repairs, hotel costs, and the need to replace furniture and essential belongings.
FEHSF provided emergency support to help the family begin rebuilding after the storm.
Department of Labor Office of Inspector General Law Enforcement Professional
A law enforcement professional with the Department of Labor Office of Inspector General was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma while also facing chronic kidney disease. The diagnosis brought not only a serious medical battle, but also the financial strain that comes with treatment, uncertainty, and family disruption.
FEHSF provided assistance to help the family confront the burden of life-threatening illness with dignity and support.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Family
An FBI family suffered the heartbreaking loss of a young daughter. In the aftermath of such a devastating loss, FEHSF provided immediate support to help the family with urgent needs and to let them know they were surrounded by a community that cared.
Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent
An FBI Special Agent was diagnosed with breast cancer, underwent surgery, and began an aggressive course of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The illness placed enormous emotional, logistical, and financial strain on the family.
FEHSF provided support through the Larry DiGioia Jr. Cancer Fund to help with family therapy, travel, logistics, and other expenses connected to treatment and recovery.
FBI / Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson and Explosives Investigator Family
The family of an Arson and Explosives Investigator suffered a sudden and unexpected death. FEHSF provided assistance to help the surviving family manage immediate expenses and begin facing the difficult days ahead.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Family
An FBI Special Agent and spouse lost their two-year-old daughter after more than two months in pediatric intensive care. Their daughter underwent a bone marrow transplant and extensive medical treatment for a rare condition that was damaging her liver.
FEHSF provided support for immediate family needs, including counseling and other expenses for the agent, spouse, and their remaining children. This grant was not only about financial relief. It was about standing beside a family after the loss of a child.

An FBI Special Agent sustained devastating injuries that created continuing hardship for the family. FEHSF provided additional financial assistance to help the family manage the long-term strain of serious injury, recovery, and the daily burdens that follow a life-changing event.
Homeland Security Investigations Supervisory Special Agent
An HSI Supervisory Special Agent and his family were struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash while riding together during the Christmas holiday. All four family members were transported to a Level I trauma center and hospitalized.
The agent suffered a broken back, fractured ribs, and a collapsed lung. His spouse suffered a brain bleed and significant bruising. Their son suffered a broken leg and severe injuries, requiring additional surgery. Their daughter also suffered injuries.
FEHSF provided support to help with medications, therapy, medical transportation, and continuing care needs as the entire family began the long process of recovery.
Homeland Security Investigations Retired Senior Special Agent
A retired HSI Senior Special Agent faced serious medical challenges that placed significant pressure on the family. FEHSF provided financial assistance to help relieve the burden of medical needs, household expenses, and the uncertainty that comes with serious illness.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement / Enforcement and Removal Operations Supervisory Officer
An ICE-ERO supervisory officer passed away after a courageous battle with cancer following 19 years of service with ICE-DHS-ERO. He left behind a spouse and two young children, ages 8 and 4.
FEHSF provided support to help the surviving family with immediate needs, including expenses connected to the children’s education, supplies, books, uniforms, and care.
United States Border Patrol Professional
A Border Patrol professional suffered an on-duty injury and later faced additional hardship after flooding impacted the family. FEHSF provided emergency assistance to help the family recover from both the injury and the damage caused by the natural disaster.
United States Marshals Service Senior Inspector
A Senior Inspector with the United States Marshals Service lost his wife after a long and courageous battle with cancer. For more than five years, he helped care for her as she fought terminal intestinal cancer and remained determined to spend as much time as possible with her husband and family.
FEHSF, in partnership with the Brady Hunter Foundation and the Larry DiGioia Jr. Cancer Fund, provided support to help the family during their time of loss.
Deputy United States Marshal
A Deputy United States Marshal’s father, aunt, and several others were involved in a serious vehicle accident near Orlando, Florida. His aunt passed away at the scene, and his father was left paralyzed from the waist down, requiring significant ongoing care.
The Deputy and his wife faced lost wages, travel, care obligations, and the responsibility of supporting their young child while also helping extended family through tragedy. FEHSF provided assistance to help with professional medical care, therapy, immediate family needs, and continued support.
Deputy United States Marshal
A Deputy United States Marshal was wounded in the line of duty while searching the apartment of a violent fugitive. After being struck, he returned fire and forced the threat to retreat, protecting his teammates and risking his own safety to save others.
The injury created immediate financial strain, including supplies, transportation, rehabilitation, and the loss of income after his significant other had to step away from work to help care for him. FEHSF provided support to help the family through the recovery period.
Deputy United States Marshal
A Deputy United States Marshal was injured during a multi-agency arrest operation involving the U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and ICE. The wanted subject resisted arrest, gunfire occurred, and the Deputy was struck and required hospitalization and surgery.
FEHSF provided financial assistance to help the Deputy and family with immediate needs during hospitalization, surgery, and recovery.
United States Marshals Service Senior Inspector
A Senior Inspector was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident and had to be airlifted to a Level I trauma center. The injuries required hospitalization, surgical intervention, and an extended rehabilitation period.
FEHSF provided support to help with medical expenses, childcare, household needs, and the financial pressure that comes with a lengthy recovery.
Deputy United States Marshal
A Deputy United States Marshal experienced additional medical complications following a previous line-of-duty shooting. FEHSF provided further assistance to help relieve the financial strain on the Deputy and family as they continued to deal with the lasting impact of the injury.
Deputy United States Marshal
A Deputy United States Marshal was injured while attempting to apprehend a fugitive. FEHSF provided financial assistance to help support the Deputy and family during recovery and to ease the immediate burden created by the injury.
United States Marshals Service Senior Inspector
A Senior Inspector faced serious medical circumstances that created hardship for the family. FEHSF provided financial assistance to help ease the burden and ensure the family had support during a difficult and uncertain period.

Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF) Special Response Team (SRT) Operator
Wife suddenly fell ill and died of a previously undiagnosed heart disorder leaving him with their young daughter. Our grant was used to offset immediate expenses for her funeral and childcare.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Agent
Died within weeks of a kidney cancer diagnosis. His wife, also an FBI Agent, was provided a grant which was used towards their out of pocket hospital co-pays and his burial expenses.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Agent
Tragically committed suicide. A grant was provided to his widow and used towards his funeral expenses and to off set living expenses.
Deputy United States Marshal (DUSM)
Shot and killed executing a high risk arrest warrant. Our grant was used for his widow and children’s daily living expenses and to assist extended family members with their travel and lodging expenses during their time of grief.
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force Officer (TFO)
Five year old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. Our grant was used for their out of pocket co-pays for her medical treatments.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)
Agent died of 9/11 related cancer. A grant was provided to his widow for her daily living expenses until the family could get back on their feet.
United States Secret Service Senior Special Agent
USSS Senior Special Agent passed away after a long battle with cancer. The grant funds were used toward his two children’s college education.
Internal Revenue Service (CID)
Senior Special Agent lost his wife suddenly. FEHSF stepped in to support the family during their time of need by off-setting the financial burden and help ease their emotional pain.

Elite IRS Colombian Task Force known as the Unidad Trasnacional Investigativa Contra las Finanzas Criminales. TFO Johanna Alejandra Agaton Chacon, a vetted & respected team member in Bogota, Colombia died suddenly.
